Black History Month is an important opportunity to uplift and celebrate the contributions and achievements of black individuals throughout history. However, it is equally important to uplift and empower young black voices.

This week's webinar will feature a panel of young Black leaders for a lively discussion on how Black history has impacted their lives as well as inequalities they still face today.

Courtney Thomasgraduated from Florida State University with a degree in Political Science and a Masters in Applied American Politics and Policy, and now serves the City of Tallahassee in City Hall as the Chief of Staff for Mayor John E. Dailey. Thomas previously held roles within Congressman Al Lawson’s office, Congresswoman Gwen Graham’s office and the Florida Dental Association. Thomas is an ardent mentor to other young women with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Leon County Chapter of the Charmettes, Inc.

Grace Castelinserved as intern with the League of Women Voters of Florida in the Spring of 2022.Grace is working on her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the Univesity of Central Florida. Grace is a Senator in UCF Student Government Association. In her student government role, she also serves as Black Caucus Vice Chair. She is also the Political Action Co-Chair of the UCF Chapter of NAACP, and a member of the National Council of Negro Women.

 

Raeshaun Cooncewas initiated to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc in spring 2019 at the University of Central Florida and serves as Assistant District Director for the Florida Federation of Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters. Raeshaun received his Bachelor's degree in multi/interdisciplinary studies and with two minors in marketing and one in health services administration. While a student, Rawehaun was a member of theNational Black Law Students' Association, and the LEAD Scholars Academy.
