League group meets with 2 women who lead their cities

Published on 5/18/2026
The 2026 Margaret McGrath Leadership Training Group was treated to informative and engaging presentations by Davie Mayor Judy Paul and Tamarac Mayor Michelle Gomez.

Mayor Paul shared her passion for environmental preservation while maintaining a focus on economic development. Mayor Gomez emphasized her efforts to build community connections and consensus, respecting the unique character of diverse groups comprising her constituency.

League participant Janet Kowal said the group was "fortunate to have such dynamic, accessible and dedicated leaders" to speak with the class about leadership.

The  Margaret McGrath Leadership Program was created to build a strong bench of local League leaders. The goal is for participants to lead a project, a committee or take a director or officer position in the League following the program. Through their efforts, they will grow, and diversify the League of Women Voters of Broward County.

During the nine month program, participants meet with League leadership and a series of elected officials.

Participants must apply to the program and space is limited. Applications are available in the fall of each year and the program begins in January.
