The Broward County Library has announced its receipt of three awards from the Florida Library Association (FLA), including the FLA’s 2026 Library of the Year award.
As FLA describes, the honor recognizes the library’s excellence in “connecting with the community through innovative partnerships, programs, and services,” and its promotion of “inclusion, equity, and access to information while providing cutting-edge technology and training.” The FLA also highlights the “[s]taff development, accessibility, and community engagement [that] are at the heart of this library’s success.”
The Broward County Library also won two additional awards. Its Black History Saturday School Communiversity Series, which provides free, monthly Black History classes open to the public, was honored with the FLA’s Intellectual Freedom Award.
And its “Freegal Quest” campaign, aiming to increase awareness and use of a streaming music service available through the library, was recognized with the FLA’s Communications Excellence Award.
As a longtime supporter of the Broward County Library, the Broward County League of Women Voters celebrates the library’s achievements and congratulates the library on these well-deserved honors!
Years ago, the Broward League fought to establish a county-wide library system, and in the years since then, has partnered regularly with the Broward County Library in providing public programming, education, exhibits and events hosted in Broward libraries.
Indeed, support for the Broward County Library and related programs is a key element of the Broward League’s 2026-2027 Action Issues agenda, focusing on supporting adequate and equitablefunding for our county-wide public library system, and supporting groups and policies that help the library system thrive.
The Broward County Library was established in 1974. Today, it provides services to the public at 37 locations throughout the county, and is recognized as one of the largest and busiest library systems in Florida.
Please join us in congratulating the Broward County Library!
