Broward County is considering placing a charter amendment on the 2026 November ballot.
If passed, the amendment will provide for a 0.25% sales surtax for a period of five years to fund the Broward County Health Care Plan.
Resolution 2026 – No.114 provides for a referendum election to be held on Nov. 3, 2026, to determine whether to approve a 0.25% sales surtax for a period of five years to fund a county health plan.
In May 2023, then Mayor Mark Bogan introduced a proposal to fund the Broward Health Project, a pilot program to identify eligible Broward residents and provide them with screenings to identify cardiac and cancer health issues.
In 2025, the Florida Panthers foundation invested an additional $1 million to the county-funded program.
The Broward League Health Care Action Committee supports studying this resolution, noting that
it directly pertains to one of the League’s action issues for 2026-2027:
"Promote a health care system for the US that provides access to a basic level of quality
care for all US residents, including behavioral health and controls health care costs."
