Defending democracy – protecting citizens’ right to vote and fighting for free and fair elections – is the LWV mission and passion. The events of 2021, especially the passage of voter suppression legislation in Florida and the Capitol insurrection, show our advocacy and programs are more important than ever.

Please show your support for the League’s critical work by joining us for our first “Mavericks & Heroes” event. We are proud to announce a true maverick – the Honorable Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee and Media Expert Commentator – will be our speaker. Mr. Steele certainly qualifies as a maverick – taking risks and defying convention. Being afraid of risk is normal, but refusing to let it stop you from standing up and making a difference — that’s a sign of a true maverick.
