About this event
Why Florida is Becoming More Republican
with Guest Speaker
Dr. Daniel A. Smith,
Professor & former Chair of Political Science
University of Florida
Dr. Smith will be addressing one of the major issues dominating partisan politics in Florida--- the increase in Republican Party registration. Drawing on original research, he will discuss the reasons for the declining registration fortunes for the Democratic Party, which have to do with regulations on voter registration activities of Third Party Voter Registration Organizations (3PVROs), including those by the LWV, as well as in-migration to the state by voters registering as Republicans. He is also happy take questions on other topics, such as the possibility for mid-decade redistricting in Florida, changes to election rules and recent litigation in Florida, and voting patterns on statewide ballot measures.
