RETURNING CITIZENS & ELECTION POLICE
As Americans across the country start the early voting process and prepare to return to the polls for the midterms, election officials should do everything possible to encourage one thing: voting. Instead, Florida’s new Office of Election Crimes and Security better known as our “election police” appear to be suppressing it by targeting good faith voting mistakes. In August, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the state of Florida was arresting 20 people who had knowingly registered and voted illegally in the 2020 elections. He said these arrests were “just the first step” in his attempt to crackdown on alleged wide-scale voter fraud in the state, despite the fact that there is no evidence to prove voter fraud is a major concern in the state.
Join us on November 4 at 1:00 p.m. (ET) as we learn more from LWVFL President Cecile M. Scoon and LWVFL Restoration of Rights/Returning Citizens Action Chair Debbie Chandler on our work to help returning citizens vote confidently and to combat the continued weaponization of Florida's Office of Election Crimes and Security.
