About this event
This session explores practical methods for helping communities make sense of complex issues when facts are contested. Panelists will share diverse approaches to a common challenge: creating conditions where community knowledge and lived experience remain central to understanding and decision-making, while also drawing on relevant expert input. Through thoughtful issue framing and skillful facilitation, groups can learn together rather than debate to win. With transparency, curiosity, and respect, facilitators support deep listening across perspectives and the development of shared understanding. Drawing on lessons from dialogue, citizens’ assemblies, and public deliberation, we’ll explore approaches that help groups weigh evidence, question assumptions, and reach common ground on what’s true enough to act on together.

- Cristin Brawner, National Issues Forums Institute
