New district maps for 2022

Monica Elliott | Published on 6/11/2022

Census information has many uses, with one being the redrawing of political districts at all levels of government to account for changes in population and ensure equal representation. This is referred to as redistricting. While almost all political boundaries for elected offices have changed in the county, none changed as dramatically as the Broward County Commission Districts. The new map reflects the new demographics in the county based on the 2020 census numbers.

Learn now which district you live in so you know which candidates to follow as we prepare to vote on August 23 in the primary and school board elections. Note that in some cases the political boundaries for an elected office within Broward County did not change very much, but the numbering of the districts did change! Links to the new maps are provided below.

The Florida Legislature developed a redistricting website (https://www.floridaredistricting.gov) which explains their process and timeline. The new Florida Senate District map is at https://tinyurl.com/39kp7k9f, and the new Florida House District map is at https://tinyurl.com/2ryxfja3

Reapportionment specifically refers to the redistribution of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Due to population growth, Florida gained one more seat. In a special session of the Florida Legislature, a new Congressional District map was developed and approved by the Governor. https://tinyurl.com/yc2h9n77

Information from each of these maps is compiled by the Supervisor of Elections office to develop precinct boundaries. It is quite possible that a voter may be assigned to a new precinct. When the entire process is finished, every registered voter will be mailed a NEW voter information card that will inform you of each district you are located in and your precinct.

Make sure your residential address is up to date! Your address determines the district you are in and the precinct. Update at https://www.browardvotes.gov.
