Full house for Women's INequality Day

Women's INequality Day

In 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as "Women's Equality Day" to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote. But this year, rather than calling it Equality Day, the U.S. league is calling it INequality Day because women are losing rights and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has still not been added to the U.S. Constitution.

The Saturday afternoon program at Northwest Regional Library drew a full house. Participants heard about the history of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the need to finally pass it. The group also heard a
summary from the 2023 report on the status of women in Broward County from a member of the Broward County Commission on the Status of Women.

The highlight was an impassioned talk by Florida House Rep. Robin Bartleman who discussed the fight for women's bodily autonomy in Florida.
